What is a giclee?
A giclee fine art print refers to a machine-made reproduction of an artwork using the latest and most sophisticated ink-jet technology. The name giclee comes from the French word GICLEE (pronounced Zhee-Clay) that means "spray". In this printing method, the giclee process uses incredibly accurate computer controlled jets to apply archival quality inks to watercolor paper, canvas or etching paper. These unique jets are able to vary the width of the ink stream to as small as 1/100th the width of a human hair. It is this capability that gives the giclee its beauty. Giclees have a higher resolution than offset lithographs and the dynamic color range is greater than serigraphy. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks. Giclee prints are created using professional 8-Color to 12-Color specialized printers capable of producing the highest degree of detail for the fine art and photographic markets.
